First Day Jitters

July 3, 2009

Who hasn’t felt those butterflies on the first day of new adventure? Students reading First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg relate to Sarah who can’t get out of bed and has to be prodded every step of the way on the first day of school. The reading lesson focuses on tapping in on background knowledge and making connections, as all good readers do. The surprise ending leads to great discussion. The writing lesson focuses on generating ideas.
